Professional Experience
Donald Ross Patterson was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1964.  He is board certified in Immigration and Nationality Law.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Patterson served in the U. S. Navy, being stationed in Morocco and the Philippines.  After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Patterson returned to his East Texas roots, near his hometown of Overton, Texas. His experiences with people from diverse parts of the world naturally drew him into the area of immigration law.

From 1964 to 1982, Mr. Patterson worked as Judge Advocate General’s Corp.  In 1982, he began a private practice which he continued until 2009 when he joined Flowers Davis.  The highlight of Mr. Patterson’s private practice career was the opportunity to argue a citizenship case before the United States Supreme Court in 1997. (To the best of our knowledge he is one of three from Tyler who had such an opportunity.)

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Patterson has had a diverse teaching career.  He has taught Business Law, Criminal Justice and Government at the University of Maryland, Chapman College, the University of LaVerne, Jarvis Christian College, Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler.

With over 40 years of legal experience, Mr. Patterson is highly qualified to provide assistance with your legal needs, not only in immigration matters but in wills and probate, real estate, business, and other areas.  Mr. Patterson has been profiled in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in American Educators, and Who’s Who in the World.

Education
Mr. Patterson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Texas Technological College in 1961, and went on to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas in 1964.  He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Southern Methodist University, 1972.

Professional Organizations
Mr. Patterson is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including the Smith County Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, State Bar College, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
